Young Explorers Grants Program The Committee for Research and Exploration funds hypothesis-based scientific research. Consult the CRE Website for more information on the fields of research funded. Applying for a Young Explorers Grant is a two-step process. First, you must submit a pre-application form online. If your pre-application is approved, you will be sent an email with a link and a password giving you access to the full application online. Please submit your pre-application at least eight months prior to your field dates.
Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst Research Scholarships are available to highly qualified PhD candidates, and post-doctoral researchers for research at universities or institutes in Germany. All academic disciplines are eligible. Grants can either be short-term (1-6 months) or long-term (7-10 months.) Short-term grants must occur between August 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008. Long-term grants must occur within the time frame of the German academic year (October 1, 2007 to July 31, 2008). Deadline: Applications for music, fine arts, and dance must be postmarked by November 1, 2006. Applications for all other fields must be postmarked by November 15, 2006.
The Luce Scholars Program Stipends and internships are offered for fifteen young Americans to live and work in Asia. Candidates must be American citizens with backgrounds in any field, other than Asian studies, including medicine, the arts, business, law, science, environmental studies, and journalism. Application materials can be accessed and completed at the Luce web site. To be considered for the nomination, you must submit the completed application (including four letters of recommendation) to Ian MacMullen at Campus Box 1117. Deadline: Applications must be received by November 9, 2006.
Amelia Earhart Fellowships for Women Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships for women in graduate study in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering. Deadline: Applications must be received by November 15, 2006.
Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships To increase diversity, Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships are offered for Predoctoral ($20,000 per year for three years), Dissertation ($21,000 for one year), and Postdoctoral ($40,00 for one year) fellowships. Deadline: Predoctoral Applications must be received by November 16, 2006; Dissertation Applications must be received by November 30, 2006; Postdoctoral Applications must be received by November 30, 2006.
U. S. National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes to pursue science and engineering research in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand or Taiwan. The stipend amount is $4,000. Application Deadline: December 12, 2006.
United Negro College Fund and Merck Institute for Science Education These two organizations have collaborated to bring Dissertation Fellowships to support the training and development of world-class African American biomedical scientists. Twelve awards will be made in 2007: $52,000 consisting of $42,000 fellowship stipends and $10,000 research grants. Qualifications: African American, enrolled full-time in a Ph.D. program in the life or physical science (M.D./Ph.D. degree candidates are eligible), engaged in and within 1-3 years of completing dissertation research, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Application Deadline: December 15, 2006.
2007 Smithsonian Fellowships The Smithsonian Institution offers fellowships for research and study in the following fields: Animal behavior, ecology, and environmental science, including an emphasis on the tropics; Anthropology, including archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistics, and physical anthropology; Astrophysics and astronomy; Earth sciences and paleobiology; Evolutionary and systematic biology; Folklife; History of science and technology; History of art, especially American, contemporary, African, and Asian art; Materials research; Molecular biology; Social and cultural history of the United States; 3 - 12 month Senior Fellowships are $40,000 per year; 3 - 12 month Postdoctoral Fellowships are $40,000 per year; 3 - 12 month Predoctoral Fellowships are $25,000 per year; 10 week Graduate Student Fellowships are $5,500; 3 - 12 month Latino Studies Fellowships are $25,000 per year. Deadline: Applications must be received by January 15, 2007.
